Njacko Backo was born in Cameroon and raised in the hills in a small village called Bazou, which means “the walkers”. He began playing percussion and making instruments at age three. He has studied with master African musicians all over Africa and Europe and has himself been teaching drumming and dancing to children and adults for more than 25 years.
Njacko has a lifetime of practice in capturing the subtlety of dance and storytelling with his music – an essential part of the African performing arts. His programmes for children and youth draw on parallels and differences between Canadian and African family life.
His energy and enthusiasm for percussion and dance are contagious!
Let's Drum and Dance for Life! brings together people of all ages to learn about percussion, African culture, and cooperation. It will expand your knowledge of African music, and help to develop a sense of love within the community.
Participants will learn the song Toumkak, with different percussion parts, singing, and dancing.
