In this workshop, participants will look to The Power Plant’s summer exhibition, The Milliner’s Daughter focused on artist, Ydessa Hendeles. The exhibition includes installations of photographs, prints, sculptures, and collected objects. These artworks invite viewers into parallel worlds and unfolding narratives about personal identity, collective diversity, and memory.
Using Hendeles’ mannequins as a springboard for discussion about difference, diversity and community, participants will design their own paper mannequins inspired by a member of their community who is different from them in some way. Then, using markers, pens, stamps and various collage materials, participants will bring their puppets to life!
