Fresh Ground new works

Call for Submissions

Thanks to all of the artists and companies who applied. The submissions deadline is now over and the shortlisted applicants will be notified on March 1, 2012.

This December 2011, Harbourfront Centre is pleased to issue the fifth Call for Submissions for Fresh Ground new works. Thanks to the generous support of our donors, the prize-winning projects will receive funding toward the creation and presentation of their project during Harbourfront Centre’s 2013-2014 season. The prizes will be awarded through a combination invitational process and an open call for submission.

Harbourfront Centre is committed to championing the creation of new artistic works. Recognizing that some of the most original and intriguing work being produced across the country today results from artists experimenting across genres and collaborating in untraditional ways, Fresh Ground new works, Harbourfront Centre’s national commissioning prize, champions the creation of new artistic works, providing a forum for originality, invention and inspiration.

Harbourfront Centre is the steward of an extraordinary 10-acre site at the centre of Toronto’s urban waterfront. The 2013/14 prize-winning projects will focus on the unique Harbourfront Centre site, its relationship to the Toronto Harbour and Lake Ontario, and its role as a gateway to the city. Our challenge to all interested artists and companies is to devise work which will engage Harbourfront Centre’s physical site, the natural elements, and the history of the waterfront, and also support the Centre's nearly 40-year history of championing contemporary international culture and engaging the widest possible audience.

A maximum prize of $20,000 will be awarded to each of the winning projects which successfully fulfills the criteria of a new, collaborative artistic creation incorporating more than one discipline or field. As in previous years, the work must be original, never before presented or performed, and be ready for presentation or installation at Harbourfront Centre between September 2013 and June 2014.
