Vandana Vishwas was born in the north Indian city of Lucknow. Her forte is rendering expressive Ghazals, Bhajans and Geet, the light classical vocal genre of south Asian music.
Although blessed with an exceptional talent for music, in order to be able to share her gift with the world, Vandana has had to overcome serious physical challenges arising out of permanent damage to her left hip joint caused only two days after her birth, leaving her with lifelong chronic and acute pain.
By the time she was 16, she had already earned a Sangeet Visharad, the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in Indian classical vocal music and was a contract artist with All India Radio – an association that lasted for 10 years until she left India to pursue a career in architecture.
Now a Canadian citizen, Vandana lives in Mississauga. Her recently released debut album Meera – The Lover… is based on legendary Indian poetess Meera Bai’s devotional love songs, and is gaining wide spread media interest and popularity among world music audiences and critics all over North America.
