México’s artistic and cultural leadership within North America has long been acknowledged. The geographic context of México, from its coastal regions to its mountains and fertile agricultural interior, has since time immemorial provided bounty for both Indigenous communities and immigrants to the region. Coupled with this geography is the strategic location between North and South America, and the dynamic and volatile political influences on the continent. These cultural and artistic practices and this diversity are unmatched in other regions of the Americas – from leading edge traditional and contemporary artistic practices, to a vibrant and unique visual arts presence, to a dynamic performing arts milieu.
The momentous Méxican anniversary of the 200 years of Independence (September 16) and 100 hundred years since the Revolution (November 20) are launching points for this festival, serving as a coming out party both as an artistic and creative force both within the Americas and the world.
