Curatorial Statement
Hot & Spicy Food Festival is back — hot, spicy, sultry and sweet. We'll explore the lost origins of spices and foods, and their migrations and transformations as they move across the world and across time. Cacao drinks from the Maya transform to spicy chocolate moles in Mexico and to jalapeno chocolates in Texas. Wasabi starts with sushi and ends with wasabi ice cream. How do our guest international chefs and Toronto's multi-cultural local chefs and farmers fit with this global scene? How does the music, dance and film of the regions reflect these migrations and transformations?
