China
Remarkable.
– The New York Times
Ce qui retient l'attention, ici, c'est la maniere dont les corps de Tao Ye et de Duan Ni sont reduits a l'etat de masses grises. Et avec quelle maestria ces danseurs s'abandonnent a la gravite.
– La Presse
[Artistic Director] Tao Ye is emerging as a force to be reckoned with.
– Time Out Beijing
Some of the more interesting dance to come out of China to date.
– Ballet-Dance Magazine
Confounds and amazes. It is rare to be able to say 'I've never seen anything quite like it,' and really mean it.
– CVNC Online Arts Journal North Carolina
In Tao’s dances, the human body and its movement in time and space are complete in themselves.
– The Gazette
Two incisive works by China’s emerging leaders of contemporary dance that shatter expectations. Weight x3 is a triptych of pieces concerned with stretching the boundaries of physical practice. In 2, the dancers’ bodies fold, collapse, invert and mirror each other to convey the movement (and rigidity) of language.
Suggested age: 12+
Since its inception in 2008, TAO Dance Theater has established itself as one of the most interesting contemporary dance companies in China.
The troupe has presented its work in several festivals in China and Europe, and has also collaborated with leading artists in the genres of theatre, experimental music, cinema, visual arts and installation art in China. The company’s artistic director, Tao Ye, is moving away from naturalist and figurative trends into a formal dance form.
Company Website
Tao Ye and his company will teach an intensive two-hour physical exploration and discovery master class. Through games to relax the body, as well as exercises to open the mind, participants will experience, first-hand, Tao Ye’s latest movement techniques.
