Building bridges.
Through our multitude of programming options, we believe that what makes World Stage truly unique is that we are committed to developing audiences and artists at the same time - all the while creating an utterly authentic and active experience.
We believe that the artist and his or her work is at the centre and that we provide the mortar to buid bridges between the work, the artists and the public.
HATCH: emerging performance projects 2010 and HATCHLab
Have you ever wondered where the show you see at World Stage began? Every production has a starting point, a first audience, a community that has supported its process as the work grew into what it is now. Covering the range of Toronto’s lively and diverse performance scene, HATCH is your chance to encounter the most original new voices this city has to offer, to witness artistic exploration, to see new work, to be a part of the important creative process and support emerging artists at a crucial stage in their development.
Celebrating its 7th year, HATCH: emerging performance projects has developed to offer a series of performance creation residencies, designed to support invention and innovation in performance and foster new relationships between local artists and the public.
HATCH: emerging perfomance projects 2010 programming line-up will be announced shortly. Please check back to this page to learn more about the local artists in residency and details around their presentations.
HATCHLab is a compendium to the HATCH programme. Workshops, Master classes, and facilitated access to the international artists we programme in World Stage is part of the ongoing mentorship that HATCHLab offers to a new generation of engaging contemporary artists.

The Culture Congress 2010
The Culture Congress is a symposium-style event that opens Toronto's lively artistic community to the world; bringing together lively practitioners from local, national and international arts communities for an exchange of practical skills, information sharing and ideas. The Congress consists of panel discussions, workshops, breakout sessions, roundtables and lecture presentations taking place in a variety of venues across Toronto (theatres, galleries and community spaces) and aims to respond to issues and concerns of the local artistic community within a national and international context. For this edition, Harbourfront Centre will host and facilitate a nation-wide investigation into the Canadian Performing Arts Ecology.
This congress will culminate in a three-day event taking place in Toronto in March 2010, coinciding with The Theatre Centre's Free Fall Festival. This event is also presented in partnership with The Theatre Centre and Theatre Junction. While this is an industry event, it is open to the public.

The Ambassadors of World Stage
A new initiative for 09:10, The Ambassadors of World Stage programme brings together some of the best Toronto artists and creative thinkers across disciplines. The Ambassadors are masons, building bridges between artists and art forms, and between our international artists and our local and national communities. But most of all, our Ambassadors will be valuable resource for our patrons. They will act as guides throughout the season, bringing discussion, perspective and insight to the work on our stages. This new programme allows our public not only to engage more deeply with some of the most innovative thinkers and art makers we present from around the world, but to become more familiar with and invest in the artists living and working in our city. We look forward to introducing them to you soon. Be sure to watch out for them in the lobbies, at the bar or online.
Artists interested in becoming an Ambassador or leaning more about the programme, please write to ambassadors@harbourfrontcentre.com.
