Harbourfront Centre’s daring festival, BRAVE, returns for another spin on what it means to lead a meaningful, multi-faceted life. This year’s iteration of the festival zooms in on “Secret Lives, Second Chances.” For 11 days in July, we uncover the hidden and concealed parts of ourselves through experiential theatre, immersive art, music, food and objects. BRAVE looks into the boxes we place ourselves in, the ones we try to break out of and the unexpected paths we take. BRAVE will feature international as well as Canadian talents and will also include 3 participatory programs:

  • Museum of Broken Relationships
  • Second Chance Romance
  • The Second Woman

Museum of Broken Relationships

The Museum of Broken Relationships is a physical public space created through crowd-sourced objects. Each object is donated by individuals all over the world and represents a symbolic memento of a past relationship that ended.

Harbourfront Centre is presenting a collection of objects to be featured in the upcoming Museum of Broken Relationships exhibition in Toronto, Canada.

The selected objects will be on display at Harbourfront Centre from June 29 to September 8, 2019.

All donations become part of the Museum of Broken Relationships’ collection and have an opportunity to be exhibited in the permanent display in Zagreb or elsewhere in the world.

Second Chance Romance

Harbourfront Centre and Toronto International Festival of Authors (TIFA) are giving readers who dream of writing the chance to write the beginning of one of the most popular romance sub-genres: Second Chance Romance. These stories centre on a couple with a romantic history whose relationship didn’t work out. Years later, as fate would have it, they are given a second chance at love and get the happily ever after they deserve – this is romance, after all!

Submit the beginning of your first chapter (up to 1,000 words) and get a chance to win up to $1,500.

The Second Woman

Nat Randall and Anna Breckon’s The Second Woman is an epic 24-hour piece of endurance theatre from Australia. In this Toronto installation of the production, one woman will perform a single scene inspired by the John Cassavetes’ American meta-theatrical drama Opening Night (1977). Starring opposite the actress will be 100 different scene partners drawn from the local community. Harbourfront Centre is seeking a diverse range of male-identifying participants to fill those 100 roles!
