Zambian-born Welsh director, Rungano Nyoni;s first feature film, "I Am Not a Witch," was inspired by actual stories of witch accusations in her own homeland of Zambia which led her to travel to Ghana and spend time in a real witch camp to study their life and rituals as research for the film.

The film is a fable-like story about a young African girl banished from her village for alleged witchcraft. When eight-year-old Shula turns up in a rural Zambian village, the locals are suspicious and accuse her of being a witch. As the days pass, Shula begins to settle into her new community, but a threat looms on the horizon. Soon she is forced to make a difficult decision – whether to resign herself to life in the camp, or take a risk for freedom
