With a vision to inspire audiences and visitors through a variety of ambitious and engaging experiences, Harbourfront Centre leads Canada’s cultural evolution as the most accessible, welcoming and diverse place to explore and celebrate the arts.
Through your support we entertain millions of visitors with cultural and artistic programming that is more than 70% free. Leaving a legacy gift in your will to Harbourfront Centre is a powerful commitment to the future generations of artists and audiences who will benefit from the cultural, artistic and educational programs that inspire you today. Such a gift is a lasting statement of your values and dedication to preserving and spreading art & culture in Toronto and across the world.
Area of greatest need legacy gifts are very much appreciated but you also have the option of designating your legacy gift to a particular Harbourfront Centre program, cause, or capital project.
Giving through your will is the easiest and most popular way to leave a legacy gift. You can choose to leave a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate or the remaining balance of your estate after you’ve provided for loved ones. Because a bequest is a future commitment, its value does not affect your current income or lifestyle.
“I direct my trustee to make the gift in the manner and using the estate assets which will provide the greatest income tax relief, including giving appreciated stocks, bonds, mutual funds and other public securities in place of cash.”
A charitable gift annuity gives you the ability to guarantee your income for life and reduce your taxes while also ensuring Harbourfront Centre’s audiences and visitors will continue to be inspired by a breadth of bold, ambitious and engaging experiences. Your annuity rate is based on your age and can often be higher than the investment return you would otherwise receive through a GIC or Bond. Such a gift is not considered part of your estate, and therefore is not subject to probate fees. And, it allows you to realize your philanthropic goals during your lifetime.
This type of gift is best suited to people over the age of 65. Please contact us for a no-obligation, personalized quote.
Designating Harbourfront Centre as the beneficiary or owner of your life insurance policy gives you valuable tax savings today and possible tax relief to your estate in the future. It is a simple and affordable way to make a significant impact on the future of arts and culture at Harbourfront Centre without reducing the assets in your estate.
Giving through a named endowment fund creates a permanent investment that provides a sustained source of funding. It is a meaningful way to commemorate a loved one, recognize your own involvement with Harbourfront Centre and pledge your commitment to the future of arts, culture and educational programming. These funds support fundamental activities, such as research expeditions, acquisitions, public programs, curatorship and the purchase of equipment.
Endowment funds can be established during your lifetime, at death through a gift in your will or through a combination of the two.
A gift of property is a tangible asset, such as real estate, special collections or works of art, that may be used or sold by Harbourfront Centre. In addition to receiving a charitable donation receipt for the fair market value for leaving such a gift, your estate may also avoid any potential income tax on the capital gain element.
Please note that these gifts must be approved by Harbourfront Centre prior to acceptance.
Leaving the remainder of your retirement savings plan to Harbourfront Centre can reduce both your income taxes and estate taxes upon death, while making a significant impact on the future of art and culture in Toronto. Designating the remainder of your RRSP or RRIF to Harbourfront Centre bypasses taxes and fees that would otherwise be payable on transfer or distribution.
