A vessel is more than a container – it reveals insights into the artist and their culture. Using various hand-building techniques, your students create their own clay vessels. They also learn the rich history of clay vessels, from Greek Amphorae to contemporary craft, as seen in our incredible ceramic studio.

Key Inquiry Question
How can the relationship between form and function influence the creation of your sculpture?

Program Objectives
By the end of the Contemporary Vessels program, students will:

  • Assess the historic and current use of vessels as related to form and function
  • Construct a clay vessel demonstrating an understanding of hand building techniques
  • Use appropriate terminology related to ceramic arts
