Using the Waterfront Community as a model, students will assess the past, present and future manifestations of the community through the lens of sustainability.

Key Inquiry Question
How can the concept of sustainability be used to understand the development of Toronto’s Waterfront Community?

Program Objectives
By the end of the Sustainable City program, students will:

  • Understand the history of the waterfront community and the physical, social, economic and political forces that have shaped it
  • Develop a working definition of sustainability and identify the criteria by which we can assess sustainability
  • Conduct a site walk, looking for evidence to support the decision of whether or not the waterfront community is an example of sustainability in action
