The heat is on at the wildly popular Island Soul festival, where the airwaves vibrate with the high-energy "riddim & resistance" sounds of calypso, soca, rumba, guaguancó, reggae, rapso and reggae-rap fusions. Fire up your social passion and celebrate what's hot in the human spirit with works that highlight truth, love and possibility.

Play Ludi by the Water!

6:00pm – 8:00pm

Play the original Ludi game with family and friends in the breezy shade by the water on our custom made game boards!

Panman Pat and Jeff Walcott bring the rhythmic sounds of Caribbean summer to life on their travelling steel pan drums! Come and "jump-up" or bring your own percussion instrument and join in!

Jouvay! An Ole Mas Carnival Parade

Traditional Trinidad and Tobago carnival characters and blue devils come alive and play mas to the rhythms of drums and steel pan.

Renowned Trinidadian rapso/calypso band promote their Music Liberation Front while performing rapso music – an excitingly energetic music of consciousness informed by the spirit of soca, calypso and kaiso fused with “the power of the word in the rhythm of the word.” In partnership with the Trinidad and Tobago Entertainment Company Ltd.

Kalinda Stick Fight Performance & Workshop

1:30pm – 2:30pm

Watch the martial art/dance performance practiced to the accompaniment of drumming call and response, join in singing the lavweys (songs) to cheer on the stick fighters, and learn the basics to compete in your own stick fight at the Island Soul “gayelle” (stick fighting arena), with the drummers and dancers of the Keith Pascall Performing Company.

Watch and learn the how-to of championship dominos, from the basics to the advanced. Bring your best hand... literally!

The Tobago Speech Band Workshop

A masquerade consisting of four-to-six players accompanied by a band of musicians playing the fiddle, the tambrin hand drums and a triangle. In partnership with the Tobago House of Assembly, Division of Culture and Community Development.

This workshop with Joy Lapps of Drum Artz Canada provides children with a hands-on experience with the steel pan, iron instruments and skin drums!

Canada’s best krumping group, Northbuck, alongside Toronto’s best jerkin’ group, Happy Feet, come together to bring a live interactive dance performance to the stage of Island Soul. Exposing the roots of urban dance they are sure to leave you entertained with their street riddims.

The Midnight Robber’s spoken word masquerade is the most fearsome and imitated in the pantheon of traditional Trinidad carnival characters. Learn how to talk the talk and walk the walk!
