Waterfront Festival - June 21-22, 2014

Come down to the heart of Toronto’s waterfront this weekend and take an imaginary journey with us through tropical waters. Discover island cultures from around the Caribbean through music, dance and games. Experience a true transformation, as Harbourfront Centre becomes your cruise ship to the south.

Check out more events taking place along the waterfront on June 21-22.

Curatorial Statement

Hop aboard the S.S. Harbourfront Centre as we island-hop through the Caribbean and embark on a journey through the music, dance and stories of several tropical destinations.

Landlubbers and sea-faring souls alike will be treated to a journey that takes us not only to tropical ports, but into the local cultures found there. "Passengers" will experience a variety of artistic expressions that grew out of the various local experiences with the water. The S.S. Harbourfront Centre provides the opportunity to not just hear the music of each locale, but to learn how to dance to it with performances and classes that bring the audience right into the action. On-board games provide a relaxing respite from the hard work of learning new moves and hearing new sounds.

On the S.S. Harbourfront Centre, the journey is just as important—and fun—as the destination.

A programme of the complexity and size of this 2014 festival season is only possible with the cooperation, contributions and hard work of every department and all members of the entire Harbourfront Centre staff. We extend our thanks to them all. We would also like to acknowledge and thank the dedicated Harbourfront Centre Volunteer Team who, for the past 35 years, has worked tirelessly to make all our activities possible.
