For Kim Paquet, there is deep meaning in that which is often overlooked. Paquet explores the tensions between the seen and unseen, the valued and the undervalued and the raw and refined. Driven by her strong principles and social conscience, she chooses discarded materials and honours them with pride of place in her jewellery pieces. The bottom of a used spray paint transforms into a brooch, a treasured object worn with style. She situates her jewellery firmly in an urban setting, inspired by abandoned industrial sites, crumbling architecture and graffiti.

She sees her jewellery as running counter to mass production and strives to create pieces that reflect her beliefs and aesthetics, balancing the rough with the refined.
