Writing Workshop: Mending the Past

Saturday, April 7, 2018
1:00pm – 4:30pm

Mending the Past is a hands-on writing workshop that invites participants to consider memory and trauma, whether personal or perceived in society. After a tour and discussion of Attia’s exhibition, writers will be invited to create and share new pieces of flash fiction, poetry or memoir in response to open-ended exercises. The workshop’s supportive structure encourages writers to share personal thoughts in a safe and non-critical environment. The workshop is open to writers of all levels. Writing materials will be provided.

Power Kids: Welcome Home

Sunday, April 8, 2018
3:00pm – 5:00pm

In Emeka Ogboh’s sound piece The Song of the Germans, the singers are all immigrants to Germany, each leaving their home country in search of a new home in Germany. Based on Ogboh’s interest in identity and place, participants will work together to create a handmade zine for newcomers to Toronto. We will share our favourite spots to play, eat and shop in the city we call home. At the end of the program, we will compile everyone's artwork to create a small publication to be shared with your family — and families across Toronto!
