Persefony Songs riffs on images from Christopher House’s acclaimed 2001 work, Persephone’s Lunch, to inspire a new work of unabashedly sensual beauty.

The original production, inspired by Homer’s Odyssey, was nominated for a Dora Mayor Moore Award for Outstanding Original Choreography and was performed across Canada. As part of TDT’s ground-breaking work with reimagining repertoire, Christopher House is mining the rich movement veins of the original to create a major work showcasing the power and sensitivity of the TDT ensemble.

Persefony Songs features a gorgeous new musical score by Thom Gill and the “breezy, whimsical and delightful” (NOW Magazine) musicians of Bernice. Played live at each performance, its soaring voices, warm acoustics and complex rhythms offer a contemporary take on the sonorities of Early Music.

Performed by dancers Sonia Boretski, Zachary Cardwell, Alana Elmer, Yuichiro Inoue, Peter Kelly, Megumi Kokuba, Pulga Muchochoma, Erin Poole, Devon Snell, Margarita Soria, Roberto Soria and Christianne Ullmark, musicians Robin Dann, Dan Fortin, Thom Gill, Phil Melanson and Alex Samaras, with rehearsal direction by Rosemary James, lighting by Simon Rossiter, stage management by Jennifer Lee, costumes by Jennifer Dallas and set design by James Robertson.
