Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre’s Light Years is a cutting-edge program of five contemporary dance works featuring world premieres by two of New York’s fast-rising female choreographers.

A new commission by Toronto-born, Brooklyn-based Jennifer Archibald (Founder, Arch Dance Company) showcases the choreographer’s signature eclectic blend of classical ballet, contemporary technique, and street dance executed with captivating ferocity, precision, and athleticism.

Buffalo, NY’s Nicole Caruana, founder of UANA Dans and First Prize winner of The International Competition for Choreographers (Hannover, Germany), premieres Lacrimosa, a three-part journey from pain and suffering to spirited joy, expressed through physical extremes, character quirks, and rich musicality, all with a touch of humour.

Also making its debut on the program is the CCDT premiere of Less by Toronto’s Ryan Lee, an emotional and physical reflection on gender identity performed by an all-male trio.

Light Years is completed with the return of RESET by Texas/Berlin artist Roderick George (Founder, kNonAmeArtist), set to the driving track mixes by Berlin DJ Lotic, and by CCDT Artistic Director Deborah Lundmark’s Alien Grace, featuring a live performance of the original score by world-renowned electric violinist Dr. Draw.
