A Photographer and Filmmaker's View of the Chinese Restaurant
Morris Lum is a Toronto based photographer/artist who has recently completed his MFA in Documentary Media at Ryerson University. His work explores the nature of cultural identity within the context of a diverse city such a Toronto. Morris has been working closely with the Chinese community of Toronto on the latest chapter of his New Cultural Topographic series. In addition to his photographs, Lum will also be showing excerpts of his upcoming film.
Morris Lum describes this Harbourfront Centre presentation as “an open discussion about my recent project the New Cultural Topographic: the Chinese Restaurant where I explore through photography the collection of Chinese restaurants in the GTA and Ontario. Through the exploration of the architecture each of the photographs examines the uniqueness and individuality of the restaurants. In the discussion I will explore the importance of the Chinese restaurant as a means of socialization, culture and unification.”
