About Schwartz’s Montreal Hebrew Delicatessen:
Currently celebrating its 82nd anniversary, Schwartz’s Montreal Hebrew Delicatessen is world-renowned for its succulent smoked meat. Founded in 1928 by Reuben Schwartz, a Jewish immigrant from Romania, the restaurant is located on the historic “Main,” or Boulevard St-Laurent. A true Montreal landmark, Schwartz’s has welcomed celebrities and visitors from all around the world. To name just a few, Céline Dion, Jean Béliveau, Halle Berry, and Aerosmith’s Joe Perry have all enjoyed the award-winning taste and freshness of the Schwartz’s experience.

From far and wide, customers line up outside Schwartz’s to savour the quality and tradition of great food at reasonable prices. The meat is marinated for 10 days the old-fashioned way, spiced with the original recipe dating back to 1928, and smoked daily on the premises.

In recent years, Schwartz’s has been the subject of a documentary directed by Garry Beitel, and a novel written by Montreal Gazette columnist Bill Brownstein. This year, Schwartz’s: The Musical played to sold-out audiences at the Centaur Theatre and, due to popular demand, was held over for two extensions and an additional summer run.
