Event kick-off ceremnoy facilitated by master beat-boxer Scott Jackson and urban music visionary Jo'el Douglas.


Cause Expo | 4-7:30pm | Marilyn Brewer Community Space

Featuring displays by youth groups throughout the city who have volunteer opportunities available for youth.


Advocacy in Motion | 4:35-6:05pm | Studio Lab

Workshop presenting community-based advocacy case studies through discussion and analysis while engaging students in discussing contemporary municipal, provincial and federal issues. Facilitated by Devon Ostrom.


Urban Art 101 | 4:35-6:05pm | Brigantine Room & Brigantine Tent

Workshop providing a short history of graffiti culture, the tools to decipher it, and an activity in which the participants work on developing a personal "wildstyle" piece. Facilitated by Erin Zimerman.


Regent Park Film Festival Short Film Screening | 4:35-6:05pm | Studio Theatre

Film screening facilitated by Richard Fung. The following films will be screened: The Queen, My Brothers Keeper, Stories from the Inner City – Assumptions, Is That Me, I Want It, In Bubble Trouble, Stories from the Inner City – Responsibility, and Girls’ Talk. How Municipal Governments Work | 4:35-6:05pm | Studio Lab

Workshop exploring the various elements that encompass municipal governments and their processes.


Event Planning | 4:35-6:05pm | Studio Lab

Workshop will give you an outline of the basics of running an event, starting with the concept and leading to budgeting, partnerships, execution, and promotion. Facilitated by Norman "Big Norm" Alconcel.


Keynote Address with Michael Prosserman | 6:30-7:30pm | Brigantine Room

Michaeal Prosserman will touch on topics such as: how to turn your passion into a career, how to make a difference and a living through social entrepreneurship, how your challenges make you stronger, and how to connect in diverse communities through break dancing.


Panel Discussion | 7:30-8:45pm | Studio Theatre

Comprised of city councillors and youth leaders discussing the current city budget crisis, addressing questions including: How will the city budget cuts affect young people in Toronto? What are some possible solutions to the city’s budget crisis?


Hello Beautiful Performance | 9-9:30pm | Brigantine Room

Hello Beautiful is a Canadian alternative pop/rock/hip hop band from Whitby, Ontario.
 

The Cause

Everyone:FREE

Currently in its 10th year, The Cause is the Toronto Youth Cabinet's (TYC) annual celebration of youth voice and action.

The event will consist of interactive music, art and culture career-building workshops, musical performances, panel discussions and a Find-your-Cause Expo, where various community agencies will have an opportunity to promote their organization and cause.
