Billions of robots arose from the ocean to conquer the world. They slowly assimilated themselves and no one ever noticed the difference. Alphabot was sent to gather information on the world and has been researching the world for thousands of years, interpreting what he finds as best he can. The narrative is told through songs, theatrics and a comic book, written and illustrated by Jake Roels.
Originally a solo endeavor, Jake Roels' Alphabot! project is expanding from its loop-based roots to include many full band arrangements. The music is a mix of genres all mashed together into a colourful, theatrical, and cartoonish performance. A true multi-instrumentalist, Roels plays keyboards, guitar, violin, drum machines and singing vocals; looping all the while. The latest record, EEP! features a plethora of notables backing up Jake. His backers include, but are not limited to, the masterful Dorian Wolf of Juno-nominated band Austra on bass, Rob McDiarmid on keys, Jimmy Brannen on drums, Andrew Stewart on violin, and special guest drummer Daniel Woodhead of Moon King and Spiral Beach.
