About chef Stephen Pynn:

Stephen Pynn happened into this business through travel. While in Ireland, he had a job as a dishwasher, and soon after the chef asked if he'd be interested in cooking. He completed his apprenticeship over three years in Ireland and Spain, specifically Galway and Barcelona. While in Europe, Pynn worked in Ireland, Spain and Scotland, under English, German, Italian, French and Spanish chefs. Returning to Canada, he continued in the culinary world in Toronto.

Pynn began his culinary career in Toronto as a sous chef at Jump, then Canoe and now as chef de cuisine at Oliver & Bonacini’s Bannock Restaurant. Always in search of local, sustainable and delicious food, the Spanish and Portuguese style of food and living is his favorite.

At Bannock, Pynn's goal is to create multicultural dishes that are wholesome, balanced, fun and delicious!

Iron Chef: Poutine Edition – Semi-Finals


Poutine innovation is at a crossroads with a renaissance of new fusions and flavours popping up all over Toronto.

Experience the high stakes of gourmet cooking as chef Micha Kennedy of Jamie Kennedy Kitchens faces Oliver & Bonacini’s Bannock restaurant chef Stephen Pynn in this semi-final matchup! Come watch as the iconic Canadian food that is poutine is given new life with the always entertaining and challenging "secret ingredient."

Judges include Mary Luz Meija (food enthusiast, writer, researcher, intrepid traveler and Gemini-nominated Food TV producer/director), Karon Liu (resident food writer at The Grid and former writer for Toronto Life’s food blog), David Dupuy (the Agrifood attaché for the Bureau du Quebec in Toronto), and chef Donna Dooher (celebrated cookbook author, owner of Mildred’s Temple Kitchen, and host of the hit Food Network show The Cookwork).

The first round of Iron Chef: Poutine Edition semi-final action takes place at 1:30pm and features Barque Smokehouse owner and chef David Neinstein and Rock Lobster Food Company owner and chef Matt Pettit. Click here for details.
