Toronto Now: Lisa Myers and Autumn Chacon
During the Trading Post thematic residency in Banff led by Candice Hopkins, Toronto based artist Lisa Myers, and Albuquerque, New Mexico writer and performance artist Autumn Chacon began a collaboration resulting in a sound and video series titled Noise Cooking. As a musician and chef, Myers "performed" the preparation of recipes. Chacon directed and videotaped various cooking performances using contact microphones attach to cooking utensils as the main sound input.
This series continues in Toronto as Chacon and Myers collaborate with artist/chefs to make some noise in the kitchen! These poetic documents of the movement and sound associated with the preparation of food represent ancestry, perseverance and celebration. As the artists' interpret recipes, they uncovered unexpected connections between the foods prepared in places separated by great distances, they also provide a compelling perspective on the question of the local that is so central to the Toronto Now series.
