About Chef Kristin Donovan
Kristin Donovan began her cooking career living out of a tent, cooking 19 hours a day for a camp of hungry treeplanters in sub-zero temperatures in Northern Ontario and loving it!
Kristin was formally trained at the Stratford Chefs School, where she met her husband Dan. After years of working on boats, in Toronto kitchens and restaurants, Kristin and Dan chose to open their first business together.
Hooked opened in March 2011, choosing to supply Torontonians with fish they could feel good about purchasing. Hooked sources directly from both Canadian Coasts and the Great Lakes, working with small scale fisheries and fish processors, as well as fishers themselves. The shop is the first of its kind in Toronto, carrying only product that is Oceanwise approved, fresh out of water, shipped direct to Hooked. Kristin is extremely proud of the new family business.
Kristin and Dan are the co-coordinators of Slow Fish Toronto.
About Slow Food Toronto:
Slow Food Toronto is the Toronto, Ontario, Canada Convivium (chapter) of Slow Food International, a non-profit, member-supported organization founded in Italy in 1989 as a response to the effects of fast food culture on our health, economies, traditions, and attitudes. We stand against the disappearance of local food traditions and people’s dwindling interest in the food they eat, where it comes from, how it tastes and how our food choices affect the rest of the world.
