About Jump for Jamaica:
Jump for Jamaica is a year-long calendar of celebratory events under the umbrella of Toronto's Jamaica 50 Celebration. JUMP for Jamaica! events will celebrate, educate, liberate and elevate the accomplishments of Jamaican-Canadians while showcasing the best of Jamaica in Canada, our arts, people, culture and heritage.
The Performing Arts Sub-Committee seeks to showcase and present the wealth of creativity emanating from Jamaica among Canadians of Jamaican heritage. Kevin A. Ormsby, co- Chair of the Performing Arts Sub-Committee and artistic director of KasheDance, choreographed the Jump for Jamaica dance which is steeped in traditional Jamaican dancehall dances. The dance features Jump Dancers Kay Ann Ward, Mikhail Morris, Aisha Nicholson, Benton Morris and Kelly La Juenesse. We invite everyone to Jump for Jamaica by teaching audience participants the Jump for Jamaica dance!
The dance is married to the "Jump for Jamaica All Stars Anthem," written by Canadian Jamaican chart-topping deejay Mr.Lexx and performed by top international music stars from Canada, Jamaica and the US. Jamaica 50 Celebration Inc., Chris Smith Management and Fashcam corp. partnered to produce the song.
The "Jump for Jamaica All Stars Anthem" is available on iTunes with net proceeds from sales going to benefit youth in Jamaica and Canada through People Bridge and RISE Jamaica (Reaching Individuals through Skills and Education).
