About evalyn parry:

evalyn parry is an award-winning Canadian songwriter, spoken word and theatre artist. Inspired by a powerful vision of social activism, her solo and collaborative performances have taken her to music, storytelling, poetry and theatre festivals from coast to coast of North America, and her work has been widely broadcast, commissioned and anthologized. Over the last decade, she has released four critically acclaimed CDs and created six original theatrical productions. The full-length version of SPIN premiered in co-production with Buddies in Bad Times in Toronto in 2011, and will be touring internationally in 2012/13. The SPIN album was nominated for a 2011 Canadian Folk Music Award. She is thrilled to be working with Harbourfront Centre to present this new adaptation of SPIN for young audiences.

evalyn parry's SPIN

Award-winning Toronto theatre artist and musician evalyn parry has created a brand new adaptation of her hit show SPIN for HarbourKIDS: Folk. A vintage bicycle, played as a musical instrument, accompanies a cycle of songs and stories recounting the little-known history of women and cycling. From the incredible true tale of Annie Londonderry (first woman to ride around the world on a bicycle in 1895), to Amelia Bloomer (namesake of “bloomers”), the songs of SPIN travel through time, pedaling the bicycle of social change. Blending music, monologue and technology, SPIN is an enchanting, engaging adventure in entertainment and activism.
"Part theatre, part musical gig, part spoken-word poetry and part documentary ... whatever it is, it is brilliant." -Toronto Star
