For over a decade, Montreal’s Sagapool has been making its distinctive brand of original acoustic music. Inspired as much by film scores and classical gems as by Roma and East European roots music, this accomplished sextet is known for its evocative soundscapes and high-intensity, spirited live shows. Their mix of good-natured shenanigans, striking musical skill and sophisticated compositions has won Sagapool a Canadian Folk Music Award (Best Instrumental Album, 2008) and gained them showcases at major music events like WOMEX (2010). Their latest, eponymously-titled CD, released earlier this year, has received wide critical acclaim and the band has been touring non-stop across Canada and the US.
Sagapool features Luzio Altobelli (accordion, percussion), Guillaume Bourque (clarinet, bass clarinet), Alexis Dumais (piano, double bass, electric bass), Zoé Dumais (violin, glockenspiel), Dany Nicolas (electric and acoustic guitars, banjo), and Marton Maderspach (drums, percussion, cajon).
