Yiddish Dance Workshop with Avia Moore
Balancing individual expression and community togetherness, traditional Yiddish dance is as beautiful as it is fun. With plenty of room for variation, these are dances that everyone can enjoy together. Joyfully teaching and leading Yiddish dance at festivals and events internationally, Avia Moore instills her workshops with a sense of tradition while exploring contemporary approaches to the style. Growing up in the folk arts scene of British Columbia, Avia is a theatre professional (director/performer) with expertise in cultural performance, dedicated to exploring cultural themes in a postmodern setting. She is the founder of Uncatalogued Productions, which recently presented a new adaptation of The Dybbuk, directed by Avia. An active part of the international Jewish artistic community, Avia has worked with Jewish festivals and cultural organizations around the world, including KlezKanada, Internationales Klezmer Festival Fürth, Yiddish Summer Weimar and the Jewish community in St. Petersburg, Russia.
