One of the most revered Jewish rituals, the celebration of Havdallah at the Ashkenaz Festival is likely Canada’s largest outdoor Havdallah ceremony. Thousands of people come together to awaken their senses by smelling spices, drinking wine, and basking in firelight as the passing of Shabbes (the Sabbath) is marked. Led this year by singer Aviva Chernick and Rabbi Aaron Levy (Hillel, Annex Shul), Ashkenaz’s 2008 Havdallah will feature mysticism and music for the many souls present, in preparation for the Festival and work week to come.
